Being Tutored

Like I’m sure many others have done, I used my thirty minute tutoring session to get help with the reflection paper. The tutor I worked with at this time was Caroline Kirkpatrick. While we were undergoing the session, I noticed other students from the class getting their shadowing hours done using this session. Overall, I felt that the tutor did a good job and was prepared well for the session.

The tutor was easy to approach; which is something that I feel is very important for a tutor. I didn’t have any problems with asking the tutor for help and we were able to get through the material at a steady and workable pace. The tutor was very well-mannered and it seemed like she was knowledgeable about writing. I had no problems with the tutor, I got the answers I needed from the session, and the tutor did a very good job and was helpful at getting down the procedures I needed to make this assignment a success.

English 101 Observation

I was notified ahead of time that the class’s schedule would be a bit out of sorts, but it seemed like everything was flowing very well. The Friday class being taught by Professor Sarah Feldberg I observed seemed to be proceeding at an appropriate rate. The main focus for most of the class was fiction, along with looking at a piece of student work towards the end of the class. Professor Feldberg wrote on the board for the majority of the class and used it to organize the topics that were being discussed. The class was a lecture with the instructor occasionally asking the students questions about the previously assigned readings.
As mentioned before, the class was operating at a very good pace with no real interruptions happening in between the lecture. Professor Feldberg seemed like she had good control over her class and taught with organization and was respectful towards her students. I feel that fiction is a very interesting topic to be talked about in writing, so I was glad that the students were getting an early exposure to it in English 101. The students were mostly quiet throughout the lecture; only speaking when they had to answer a question or were bringing up a concern they had about the assignments they had done or were being given to them.
I feel that this was a good class for me to observe, as I felt that a lot of good was being done. I feel like I may have learned a few pointers for when I have to do my tutoring, but I will also take some points when I am tutored. The style of this class was a lecture that was taught with both organization and respect; which is something that sadly does not happen in a lot of classes that I have both seen and had. I feel that everything that I need to see and hear was done within this one class.
